Our Dances
Check out a sample below of our dances from over the years!

When Michael Jackson's "Thriller" came out in late 1983 and was a smashing hit, everyone was immediately trying to replicate "the Zombie dance."  At BHD, we joined the craze with our Seniors doing the routine on the Civic Center stage in our 1984 performance (with some extras, of course).  We also performed the dance in Des Moines' East Village decades later as part of a "Zombie Flash Mob" celebrating the opening of the district's Zombie Burger restaurant.  "Thriller" remains a classic and a Halloween staple!

From Dance Magic 1996:  Our Junior Performing Arts group is joined by two of our talented Dance Magic guys in a fun and dynamic tap routine to "Good Mornin'!"

From Dance Magic 2003:  Our Techno jazz dancers fill the stage with energy and flag-twirling skills as they perform to a raving beat about the racing star from the land of the Rising Sun.  Go, Speed Racer, go!

The Iowa State Fair attracts folks from all around the nation, including hundreds of dancers.  The Anne & Bill Riley stage is renowned for its talent showcase with singers, musicians, and dancers entertaining crowds of fairgoers.  In 1990, two of our Betty Hill dancers participated in the Bill Riley Talent Sprouts competition, performing dazzling partnering tricks to "I Saw Him Standing There" by Tiffany, and won in the Junior division.  A year later, we began our annual tradition of performing stage shows at the fair, and it keeps going to this day!

1990 was also the year when we began our "Tis the Season" Christmas shows.  Starting out in the former Kaleidoscope mall, we gradually expanded our performing locations to include the Festival of Trees and Lights, the Des Moines Playhouse, Merle Hay Mall, and most recently, our own West Des Moines studio decorated for the occasion.  Our musical selections have ranged from traditional songs ("Jingle Bells"), to the Carpenters ("Christmas Waltz"), to contemporary hits ("Believe").  It's the most wonderful time of the year!
