What is Dance Magic?  It's when dancers, parents, teachers, staff, families, and friends come together to celebrate the joy, excitement, and beauty of dance!  The Des Moines Civic Center glowed with pride, sparkled with enthusiasm, and rocked with energy as our students performed beautiful ballet, terrific tap, jammin' jazz, and a whole lot more.  We believe in ouselves, in each other, in our Dance Magic Family, and in the love of Dance.  It's MAGIC!

December 15, 2012: A Classical Celebration!

Congratulations to our Classical Ballet Dancers!  You've accomplished great things on Saturdays this fall, and we celebrated "with class," fellowship, and the spirit of the season today!  Our four classical ballet classes demonstrated some of the skills they've learned with Miss Gigi, our ballet mistress.  Then--as a gift to Miss Gigi--our dancers performed a selection of their holiday dances.  And finally, we partied, got silly with kisses and pink poinsettias, and what else?  Danced some more!  Good times!

December 2, 2012: Christmas Time at Merle Hay Mall!

What a performance!  Our dancers did an outstanding job Sunday, spreading Holiday Cheer and Greetings for a Happy Christmas season as families, friends, and fans enjoyed the songs of the holidays.  For twenty-five years we've been "celebrating the season" with our blend of contemporary faves and traditional classics, featuring guest appearances and our own professional blend of classy costumes, happy dances, and high-energy fun.  One of the very best performances ever, it was great!

November 26, 2012:  Christmas Time at the Festival of Trees!

Wow!  Bells were ringing on Sunday, November 25 at the Festival of Trees when more than 60 of our performers twirled, tapped, and introduced the holiday season with their upbeat songs and dances.  With guest appearances by Frosty and Santa, our kids, juniors, seniors, and boys entertained a crowd of hundreds with both contemporary and traditional holiday favorites.

November 5, 2012:  Dance Magic 2013 Dates 

 Word just out!

Jersey Boys, originally scheduled for June at the Civic Center, has been moved to July.

This means we will get our original dates of Friday, June 7 & 8 for our Dance Magic 2013 Performances!  We will avoid both finals weeks and Father's Day by having our orignal dates--and we'll have our performance the first weekend of June, as is our tradition! 

It's a win-win-win!  Whoooeeee!

Calling all Dancers and Parents!  It's time to sign up for camps and classes for this summer!

Our evening classes for young dancers at all three locations include Preschool, Combination, Dance Cheer, and Hip Hop for Kids! (Click here for our flier.)
Evening classes for teens include Breakdance, Hip Hop, Stretching, Strength-Building, and Contemporary, offered at our West Des Moines location. (Check here for our flier.)
We offer four different one-week daytime camps featuring a variety of dance and performance-related activities. Camps for young dancers include Princess (Pre K and Kindergarten), Divas and Dudes (Grades 1-3), and Rock Stars (Grades 4-6). (Click here for our flier.)
Camps for Juniors and Seniors expand our variety of activities and help our dancers "Stretch, Train, and Reach Success" in our S.T.A.R.S. Camp (Grades 7-12). (Click here for our flier.)

Dancers who attend Divas and Dudes, Rock Stars, and S.T.A.R.S Camps are eligible to perform in our fantastic summer shows, culminating with our performance at the Iowa State Fair.  Whoo-eee!

Dance, Dance, Dance in the Summertime!

Evening sessions were a hit this summer as students, both new and veteran, tried out new classes, kept up their skills during the summer, and met new friends.  We offered June and July sessions in Preschool, Combination, and Hip Hop!  Our relaxed dress code was a perfect match for carefree summer and our happy classes! 

• Preschool Dance was great for 3 and 4 year olds who wanted to see what dance is like, and was a great way to build skills that will help their transition to Pre K and Kindergarten.  Classes were held at all three locations and were 30 minutes! $30 (plus tax) for four classes.

• Combination Dance gave our 5 to 7 year olds a chance to experience tap, ballet, and tumbling in a 45 minute class. Our young dancers gained agility and rhythm from tap, grace and coordination from ballet, and strength and flexibility from tumbling. $35 (plus tax) for four classes.

• Hip Hop has become a popular choice for dancers of all ages. Our studio crew brought out summer students the excitement of this style while keeping it clean and appropriate for kids. Our cool moves to hot tunes are a great way to experience the hip hop vibe. $35 (plus tax) for four classes.

Our June Session was:  Monday and Wednesday, starting June 13 at WDM
                                      Tuesday and Thursday, starting June 14 at Windsor and at SDM.

Our July Session:    Monday and Wednesday, starting July 11 at WDM
                                Tuesday and Thursday, starting July 12 at Windsor and at SDM.

That's the diversity we brought to the Greater Des Moines Civic Center Friday and Saturday, June 10th and 11th, for Dance Magic 2011.  Terrific tap, beautiful ballet, and jammin' jazz were the main bill of fare, with an assortment of lyrical, modern, pom, dance cheer, acrobatics, partnering, pointe, and hip hop rounding out this year's celebration of dance and music.
